I have heard this argument and that argument for the repeal of guns in the United States, basing one's opinions off of irrelevant comparisons with Australia and the UK, which aren't apt. Then I just read a piece on yahoo news about two Englishmen being sentenced to six years in prison for converting blank guns into guns that shoot real ammo. They converted about a gun a day, according to the article for 14 months...that's 420 guns, and sold them to....guess who? NOT law abiding citizens, but ...

I responded to Draginol's article about the far left, and I responded that there are sites where the far right is just as bad. I pointed out the "reverend" Fred Phelps as an example (he protested the funeral of Matthew Sheppard, and, as I found out elsewhere on the page I am about to link, is trying to have a monument erected commemorating Matthew Sheppard's "entry into Hell"). I was sickened, however, by what I read next. Apparently, today, as we are commemorating September 11, he and his...

Nearly 40 years after he allegedly defected from the US Army, Sgt. Charles Jenkins presented himself at the gate of Camp Zama, just south of Tokyo. He is now resuming active duty, while the military considers his case for court martial. The full story can be obtained on yahoo news. It is good to see that Jenkins has, all these years later, decided to do the right thing and surrender himself to the US Army. Was Jenkins a deserter, was he kidnapped by the North Koreans, or is there some othe...

Thought I might throw THIS to the wolves. What follows is a transcript of the CBS evening news response to the allegations that the Bush documents are forged, pulled from the Drudge Report. Enjoy, ladies and gents: 'KEY CHALLENGES TO NATIONAL GUARD DOCUMENTS ANSWERED' Fri Sep 10 2004 19:03:11 ET The biggest challenges to the authenticity of the documents featured in the 60 MINUTES segment on President Bush's Texas National Guard service are answered in a report to be broadcast on the ...

On September 11, 2001, I was working as a live in manager in a group home for developmentally disabled adults, and I got up, as usual and prepared everyone for work, getting them their breakfast and sending them off with their job coach. My day staff and I were sitting in the kitchen waiting for the last job coach to arrive. The last job coach arrived, and told us that a small plane hit the World Trade Center, and that they thought it was an accident. We turned on the TV just as the second...

Well, as I detailed yesterday, still no unemployment verification. And for some reason, we were turned down for TANF money, which got me to thinking. When voters asked for welfare reform, this wasn't what they were asking for. Even the most conservative among us acknowledged the need for SOME kind of "safety net" for families when they are truly in need. And yet, I remember when I started at joeuser, the numerous articles that popped up that decried all these welfare families getting somet...

I have blogged before on the Free State Project, basically a group of individuals who are trying to get 20,000 activists to move to New Hampshire to create a state with libertarian ideals. It's a noble effort, and one that I, as a supporter (although one who "opted out" of New Hampshire, and thus, won't be joining them) Have watched very closely. This election year, I figured, would be an important litmus test; I made mention of it on an article I wrote. Well, if this November is a litmus ...

OK, folks, I'm in a funk. Jobless claims are allegedly down, but I can't buy a job right now. I have filed applications with every business in town that is hiring, gotten 3 interviews, and zero job offers. Yet another day that the unemployment determination has not arrived, so I don't know if I will be getting any money off of that. And, from my reading of the letter from the welfare office, somehow, they don't feel we qualify for TANF (and I can't talk to the case worker until Monday)....

So, do you not have enough to do? Tired of looking at Muggaz' "doggy-luv" picture? Well, then, have I got the link for you! Link This is a link to a webcam focused on a bulb that has burned continually since 1901! Will it burn out on YOUR watch?

OK, the title necessitates a disclaimer. I don't hate America. Nor do I think any CITIZEN of the United States should hate America unless they are working towards emigrating elsewhere. Hating certain POLICIES is another story, but that's a different blog entirely. No, what I am talking about is the world's attitude towards America. A reference to Time magazine's recent article on Islam suggests that something like 48% of Saudis hate America (or something like that...I haven't read the a...

This is a vent. This is only a vent. I will first have to admit to being in a pissy mood due to circumstances unrelated to blogging. As much as I try, though, I cannot set aside the external situations for blogging. Perhaps this pissy mood has made me extra sensitive. Those who read my blogs regularly know I run about 80% op/ed in my posts. When I do put something out as fact, though, I try very hard to find solid, objective information as a foundation of my piece. And such it was wi...

OK, this is a spinoff of another thread. Below are 100 sample questions from the US citizenship test, and I will follow with the answers from the INS. Yes, I know the answers will contain some errors (such as the first president and the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence); however, to answer correctly, go with the generally accepted answers, ok? I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys score: 1. What are the colors of the flag? (A) 2. How many stars are there in ou...

I had to take a break from can hunting yesterday, I pulled a muscle somewhere in my lower back. Nothing serious, mind you, but enough that going out collecting cans wasn't a smart idea. So far, no eviction notice, tha landlord appears to be reasonable, thank God, but no unemployment verification at this writing either. It's supposed to be in by tomorrow at the latest, and the longer wait is making me fearful they will reject me for some odd reason (I don't see why; there was nothing I could t...

The question has risen repeatedly on joeuser and around the world as to the culpability of Islam as a faith in terror attacks around the globe. Although the information presented below will not put the debate to rest, I pulled it from hard firsthand sources and not from thirdhand information that interprets the data. I am giving you the information below and the source of my facts, and I invite you to examine the data for yourself. I present, from the data I have gleaned that, while Islam is ...

Ok, I think I have found a winner here. My newest, greatest reality show idea ever is a show called "Who Gets the Krispy Kremes?" The participants will be, among others, Michael Moore, Roger Ebert, Roseanne Barr and Rosie O'Donnell. The concept is this: each will be placed in front of preselected audiences and see who they can piss off the worst (examples, Michael Moore in front of the young Republicans, Rosie O'Donnell in front of the 700 Club studio audience). There will also be physi...
