Yesterday's news carried with it a story that we should all view with great alarm: Link . I'll hit you with the meat of it and let you read the story for yourselves. Basically, the government used foster children as human guinea pigs for untested AIDS drugs. That's right; these unawanted children were used as test subjects for potentially dangerous drugs. Want to tell me again how the foster care system is for our own good?

First of all, to start this off, I'd like someone to point to me the passage in the US Constitution where ANY BRANCH of the federal government is required to provide jobs. Have you done that? NO? Well, why don't you check your state constitution for the same passage? I can't say I'm familiar with all 50 states' constitutions, but I'm reasonably certain you won't find it. Why? Simply because it is (ready for this?...) NOT THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT! Expecting the government to be an a...

I am working on a number of items I hope to eventually be able to present to the Libertarian Party, in the state, or hopefully, national conventions. One of the points I am working on is why the Libertarian Party is a party of inclusion that all Americans should consider. Interesting, isn't it, that despite years of recruiting at "hempfests" across the country, the Democrats have YET to produce serious legislation as to the legalization or decriminalization of industrial hemp, let alone Ma...

The internet is an amazing thing. It is my primary source of information, and a major source of entertainment. It is also a major means of communication. But I can't say that everything that it has provided me with has been pleasant. In my time on here, I've been sickened by the sheer numbers of Americans who are crusading hard against the concept of liberty. Our founding fathers fought a brutal war against the tyranny of England. But the tyranny of the crown in the 18th century pales i...

An interesting comment I found on the response to another blogger: It is the government’s job to ensure that people have jobs and a place to live. That is an excelent summation of the mindset of many of the left in America. And it is horrendously untrue. Add to that that it shows the hypocrisy of the left, yet again, in light of one of our more current controversies. The argument from the left in the Terri Schiavo case centered heavily on Ms. Schiavo's inability to feed herself or pro...

I have been spending time trying to increase traffics to my blog, and after trying blogexplosion for awhile, decided to try blogclicker (linked on my sidebar). Blogclicker, like blogexplosion, works on the premise of getting points for your site for every site you visit. But UNLIKE blogexplosion, blogclicker gives you the option of upgrading your membership to increase the surf ratio, and of buying credits if you don't have the time to surf to earn them. Because of this, I tend to like it bet...

My position on poverty in the US is well known to frequent readers, but to those who aren't, I will rehash. I don't believe the solution to poverty lies in governments, but in individuals who can more efficiently assist others with their contributions. One of the problems with poverty lies in the fact that "fighting poverty" can be a lucrative business venture. Simply get a building donated in kind, and start collecting charitable donations (and hey, if you take a few of those clothes for you...

I decided to find out what your favorite sitcoms were, in part to promote my own favorite. My favorite sitcom of all time would have to be the BBC show "The Young Ones":     As a teenager, I watched this show religiously on MTV. It was standard viewing in my circle of friends. It was creative, funny, and always featured a musical guest somewhat outside of the mainstream (interestingly enough, it was where I heard my first Van Morrison song, as a cover by one of the ba...

I have discovered something that will make me FILTHY RICH! There's a key to being a successful talk show host, and it has nothing to do with program content or guests. It has to do with having a featured member of your show be completely bald. Let's begin our discussion by looking at Oprah's longtime psychologist Dr. Phil: OK, exhibit B is none other than David Letterman's longtime band leader, Paul Shaeffer: Need more? How about Jerry Springer's security man, Steve? ...

The 2008 Presidential election will be, to me, the most exciting one to watch. Why? Because something will happen that most likely won't have happened within the lifespan of anyone reading this blog. Now, I did blog on this before, but it bears repeating that third parties need to be gearing up for this election. It will be unique in the fact that, for the first time since 1928, the election will not feature an incumbent president or vice president running for either office. Dick Cheney is...

So, I went down to the city hall for the last day of early voting for our municipal elections. I decided I wanted to sleep in on Saturday instead of going to the polls. Despite a rather inefficient voting system (vote for city council at city hall, go to the school for school board), what struck me as rather odd was the way the voting was performed. I was given a paper ballot and a pen, and the ballot box was put up on the counter next to me. Two city employees stood right across the desk. Th...

On Thursday, May 5, Islamic prayer warriors will be out in force. They will be gathering on the city square in America's largest cities, prayer mats in hand, to pray for our nation. This fictional news blurb was written to make a point. Most conservative Christians would be somewhat disturbed by the above statement, as they would a similar statement regarding Wiccans, Buddhists, or other nonChristian religious groups. Frankly, it doesn't disturb me. What DOES disturb me is that Christian g...

There's an old story about frogs based on what snopes ( www.snopes.com ), at least, declares to be an urban legend. According to the story, if you put a frog into boiling water, the frog will jump out immediately. If, however, you put it in water of a comfortable temperature and gradually increase it, the frog will boil to death with no attempt to escape. Though the story itself may be apocryphal, the moral is apt. We as individuals tend to be complacent when rights are removed one by one...
