DISCLAIMER: In the article to follow, understand that I hold "prolife" to be a moral position, not a political one (for this reason, this article is posted under "misc" rather than "politics". I would have posted under "religion", but those articles are usually consigned to a slow and painful JU death). I have grave concerns about overlegislating moral views on a public that does not necessarily share them. I am unapologetically, unequivocably, and unchangeably prolife. A prolife view, to ...

I think one of the most misunderstood parts of the constitution is the right to free speech. I believe that, when the constitution was written, the framers did not envision a world where people would actually utter seditious thoughts against the government. Indeed, their every entreaty with the Mother Country prior to the revolution were well written, well thought out diatribes which took great care to consider the station and position of King George and his men; and they took great effort...

In July 1999, we decided to take a family trip out to Washington, DC and Gettysburg. We loaded up our 1988 Pontiac Safari station wagon, and hit the road (the wagon, one or two of our friends thought resembled the car from "National Lampoon's Vacation"). We overnighted in Fairmount, Indiana (hometown of James Dean & Jon Davis, for those keeping score at home, and a place with a lot of family connections for us), and we hit the highway for a long, adventuous trip. Our girls, ages 4 and 21 m...

OK, one of my other blogs got me to thinking. One of the things I love most about Americana is the way every small town in America has their own festival, something that makes them unique. For instance, Cleo Springs, Oklahoma has an annual "Watermelon Festival", Oshkosh, Wisconsin has its "Sawdust Days" (so named because the city, a former lumber town, used sawdust for fill in much of the formerly swampy downtown area), and so it goes. But the one that elicited the biggest laugh from me...

The town of Battle Mountain, Nevada, located 220 miles east of Reno knows how to take bad press and spin it in their favor. A December 2001 Washington Post piece designated this burg, "the armpit of America", and the community, in response, began an annual armpit festival, sponsored by Old Spice. I features events such as a wet tshirt contest, armpit beauty contests (hhruhh? --ed), and boxing matches in a celebration that draws about 1500 people annually. No word on whether they featur...

OK, folks...again with the disclaimer I'm NOT making this up. If anyone is, blame Reuters. Throw out that extra large case of Squid chow, folks. Now, the folks at Costco are bringing you value to continue on BEYOND this life. Issaquah, Washington based Costco, who made its name in the warehouse pricing market, announced on Tuesday that two Chicago area stores will begin marketing 6 different models of steel caskets made by Michigan based Universal Casket Company. No word on how long the...

The following is a press release dated August 12. I would have posted it sooner, but I have only recently been put on the press release list: WITH BLINDERS ON? Stephen Gordon (256)227-8360 communications@badnarik.org www.badnarik.org SANTA FE, NM - In a close presidential election which may turn on the results in a few "battleground" states, every vote counts. This is part 2 of my blogs on the Libertarian Party platform. I hope that it leaves people better informed as the election nears. If you would like more information on the Libertarian Party, please visit www.lp.org or you can email me at: Miner432004@yahoo.com: Should We Re-Legalize Drugs? Libertarians, like most Americans, demand to be safe at home and on the streets. Libertarians would like all Americans to be healthy and free of drug dependence. But drug laws don't help, they make thin...

Well, election season is imminent, and once again, the talk begins to turn to the presidential and vice presidential debates. Once again, as well, the Libertarian and Green Party candidates, despite being on the ballot, are notably absent. This leads me to question why? Why are the Democrats and Republicans afraid to allow these parties, which have steadily gained in membership and respectability over the years, into "their" debates? Are they afraid that either/or will send a message that ...

For the benefit of Joeuser readers, I am going to begin printing portions of the Libertarian Party's position on various issues. I may give equal time to other parties, as time permits, but my first loyalty is to my own party. If you find yourself identifying strongly with these positions, you may go to the LP website at: www.lp.org, or you may email me at: miner432004@yahoo.com for further information. I believe it's time Americans got information on more than just the Democrats and the Repu...

Ok, ok, I know. Many of us on here have our own psychoses, delusions, etc, with which we deal every day, and those often spill over onto our blogs. I was, however, extremely surprised to see that one of the most delusionary people I have ever encountered online now has, not one, but TWO of the "daily top articles" spots. He is still fairly low ranked, but is climbing quickly as people keep viewing his blogs to see him repeat the same stuff over and over, using the same title for every a...

Well, of course, the big news right now is Iraq's soccer team making it to the Olympic quarterfinals. I have decided that, even if it DOES help Bush in November, I want this team to win. We are fortunate as Americans in not knowing what it is like to live in a war torn country. When the casualties of war roll in, they come in on C-130's, from another place, not from next door. When our children walk outside, we don't have to worry about them getting blown up by unexploded ordinance or a...
