One of the hallmarks of a socialist society is that all property, including the people, within a country belong to the state. This is so far removed from the concepts of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" that anyone who sees any such resemblance has to have a SERIOUS vision problem. I have long warned people about the UN convention on the rights of the child, which, if adopted in the US, will effectively ban religious instruction of your own children among other things. The arti...
The short answer is no. But the real world answer, I believe, is more complicated. We have no legal responsibility to extend Constitutional rights, or even the Geneva Convention to the detainees at Gitmo. It is by no means cruel or unusual to deny them the rights of a system they detest as much as ours. But that's not the point. The point is, we are waging a war that's as much about perception as anything. Like it or not, long term success (translated: success AFTER our troops have retu...
Link Thank goodness joeusers aren't on the Supreme Court. This is a couple of years old, but not widely known. In April 2003, SCOTUS handed down a decision that caseworkers taking children from schools and interrogating them violated their fourth and fourteenth amendment rights, something CPS victims have long contended. It will be interesting to see what comes of this (and it might help our friends in their appeals).
I was kind of surprised to find myself nominated on mano's blog for "most obnoxious" joeuser. I decided, rather than pollute mano's blog, to respond here. I know why the label was applied. It was applied because the individual who said it takes issue with my continual blogging of the faults of CPS. While I defer to him the right to his opinion, I have a pretty big problem with WHY he labels me as obnoxious. It makes me wonder if he'd have been harping on the "obnoxious" Martin Luther King Jr....
Bakerstreet wrote an excellent article about the direction we're headed as a country ( Link ). It's a highly recommended read, and if the admins of this site haven't already read it, I recommend it, as I believe it's VERY feature-worthy. But I digress. Reading his article caused me to contemplate what I really dislike about George W. Bush's policies as President. In theory, he and I should agree on much. In practice, though, is where it gets sticky. Bush inherited the office no doubt want...
Well, my job as "media distribution specialist" (that's "paper carrier" in laymen's terms) is doing OK. I'm making enough money to pay the bills, but we're finding ourselves needing to get extra to buy a better car. And so, a job hunting we go. My wife's looking at a job in the local Baptist church nursery, 4 1/2 hours a week and $8 an hour. The application, though, is grueling...it's about 8 pages long and asks for EVERYTHING...kind of overkill for $36 a week in a community of 500 if y...
The following is from the Libertarian Party website. Just another example of how when taxes are added, they are virtually never repealed even when their purpose is served! Your contribution to the Spanish-American War A hundred and seven years ago, in 1898, the federal government began levying a temporary 3 percent excise tax on telephones, ostensibly to fund the Spanish-American War. Flash forward to 2005 -- a...
OK, folks...I'm chokin' on my manicotti here. I don't think I've ever been as taken aback as this since the last State of the Union Speech. A recent blogger indicated the organized boycott against Kraft Food Company for sponsoring the "Gay Games". Yup, you heard that right: the GAY Games. Now, don't get me wrong. You're here. You're Queer. I'm used to it. But the fact is, the Olympics haven't really had a history of excluding gay athletes. I really don't think Billie Jean King's coming out...
We've all seen the cases. Lawsuits where the plaintiff has a clear case, but where we simply don't want to see them walk away millionaires for the kinds of injustices we all face daily. Politicians use these cases to press for tort reform, when I'm not sure that's the answer. The fact is, companies like WalMart could write $250,000 checks all day long without blinkiong and continue with their horrendous business practices if they so choose. There is a way to address punitive damages from a de...
I've decided it's time for gid to cash in on the gravy train of Middle Eastern politics. My first order of business will be to manufacture urinals with the American flag emblazoned on them for middle easterners who can't stand America to make a statement without the use of heavy explosives. I will then send them some "Free Abu Jamal" Tshirts, which I can probably order wholesale (libs won't mind, as it will provide badly needed press for the release of one of their favorite cop killers, and the ...

For years, the left worked to construct a more socialist public education system. During his tenure as Arkansas governor, Bill Clinton helped to author the "Goals 2000" program, which was used to help draft the No Child Left Behind Act. In many liberal states, homeschool laws are rather stringent due to liberals' desire to extend the socialist infrastructure of the public school into the homeschool, often in questionable violation of the first amendment rights of the family. So, now that they...
Bigotry is a bias against a person based on prejudiced stereoptypes, right? And prejudice is forming an opinion based on preconceived notions, right? Now those may be pretty glib definitions, but they basically hit the point. So, when someone automatically dismisses Americans as "ignorant", "arrogant" or "imperialistic", that would be a bigoted statement, right? Or when someone expresses their hatred for fundamentalists of any faith...again, bigoted...would you not agree? Why is it r...
