OK, so I was watching a news story the other night. The news story was detailing the efforts Amarillo, Texas police are taking to reduce drunk driving. Their newest efforts will involve sending undercover officers to bars to arrest any patron who happens to be drunk....whether they're driving home or not. As the police chief warned, being intoxicated in public is illegal and they intend to enforce it. While this will be a fantastic revenue generator for the APD (and, apparently their newest a...

Well, yesterday, I got my second certification for the volunteer fire department (the first, last spring, was my stormspotter training). I'm now trained in extrication. Though this community is somewhat annoying at times (to say the least), I enjoy the VFD. See, most of these guys are "outcasts" in the community, and it's the place where we tend to flock together apart from the ijits. Yesterday, we were given two cars, one rolled onto its side, and had to extricate the "victims" (which severa...

OK, OK, OK....yahoo! News has crossed the line here! After reading the following news item Link , I could only think of John Cleese and Michael Palin's "ex-parrot" sketch (although, alas, this comp isn't allowing me to right click on pictures so I can post one here; if anyone wishes to dig one up for me in the "comments" section, I'd be much obliged). The damn bird had to be a Limey too! Sick Bastards!

Well, folks, with all the debate raging on the real ID act, I felt it was my duty to inform you that a database already exists where your driver's license can be viewed online...from all 50 states. All you need to do is enter an individual's name and state and it will come up within seconds. Scary stuff, that! Link

(Note: I do not attest to the credibility of this report. But, upon superficial inspection, at least, it does appear to be well researched and properly credited. Please feel free to give me any information supporting or refuting this report if you find it): The following report is NOT my own report, but can be found at the following site: Link   Recently there has been quite an "epidemic" of the so-called "shaken baby syndrome". Parents, usually the fathers, or other care-giv...

If I had written this blog at the moment it first occured to me, I would have been ahead of the game, rather than an apparent bandwagon jumper. When I first saw the trailers for the new show "Commander in Chief" starring Geena Davis, its intent was rather apparent: softening up the American public for Hillary Clinton's planned 2008 White House run. Of course, there are differences between Davis' character and Hillary: Davis plays a rather centrist figure thrust into the role of president a...

OK, so I'm walking through WalMart today in search of last minute costume necessities for tonight's play. I walk through the action aisle full of (HALLOWEEN Cakes?!?!?), and there, lo and behold, on the main display was a Halloween gingerbread house kit. Now, mind you, I do appreciate the Christmas ginerbread house kit. Ginerbread houses at Christmas time are a time honored tradition, and these kits are a godsend to those of us too aesthetically challenged to produce such a masterpiece on our...

Well, it's been a long week, and I haven't been able to get online (some thanks due to the mismanagement techniques of Major Fast Food Chain). But the week has not been a dull one, by any means. On Tuesday I contacted the attorney that we were referred to by the Rutherford Institute. He's not an ambulance chaser, by any means, and his name isn't prominently displayed in a full page ad in the yellow pages. So he can't completely defend us pro bono. But he has offered his services as a consulta...

Link Ok, let me first be VERY VERY clear in saying I detest everything the American Nazi Party stands for. This being said, I find it incredibly telling that citizens of Toledo are blaming the party for the riots among black citizens of Toledo who destroyed buildings and diad a whole lot of mayhem in the name of "protest". The neonazis marched along Toledo sidewalks. True, their presence would be disquieting to those who have worked so long to combat hate and prejudice. And I do feel...

Link I had to look this news story up to verify the facts of it, but I have had it in my head since I heard the story. Staff Seargant John Doles came home to Chelsea, Oklahoma last week. Unfortunately, it was to his final resting place. But "Reverend" Fred Phelps, of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, did not want this deserving soldier to rest in peace. He and his band of hate mongers, who make a routine practice of protesting soldiers' funerals, saying that the deaths of our s...

Link According to the news link above, Madonna has a policy against ice cream. And TV. Although she doesn't say why TV is verbotten, one would have to assume that it has something to do with either a) the values portrayed on many television shows, or the commercialism that TV sells as necessity in our society. Either way, it's slightly amusing. Has the material mom suddenly turned prude, and decided that the values she paraded around in her book Sex are not the values she wants t...

In my second job at a Major Fast Food Chain (MFFC), it has recently occured to me the principle reason that such jobs experience as high a turnover rate as they do. Sure, they suck and they pay beans, but there's a far more important reason, one entirely within the control of the business owner. See, fast food managers aren't taught to actually MANAGE! There's a whole set of skills involved in management, skills that a dextrous burger flipper may or may not possess, but which haven't been ide...

When agents from Child Protective Services show up at a parent's door, many parents are prone to let them in, believing they are the "cops", or at least, a law enforcement agency. They are most assuredly NOT. CPS' legally defined roles will vary from state to state, but in at least one state (Texas) they are defined as follows: The Child Protective Services Division investigates reports of abuse and neglect of children. It also: Provides services to children and families in...
