As I have been on JU, I have had the privilege and honor of reading the blogs of JU's military wives. I won't begin in naming them, out of fear of omitting some and causing them to feel left out, but you know who you are. I want to say first and foremost, thank you. In the time you have taken to blog on JU, I have seen your hurts and frustration, hopes and fears, and feel that I have gotten to know you personally, as you are prone to express thoughts on here that you might not otherwise ...

In my last two blogs, I outlined some of my opinions regarding the recent election. I did this in part to lay out some reasons why I feel the Libertarian Party is the most sensible choice to represent a nation as large and diverse as we are. The elections underscored how a majority opinion can easily ostracize holders of a minority opinion. This does not make the majority opinion wrong, however, and it is equally appalling for holders of the minority opinion (in this case, gay marriage) to tr...

This is a bit delayed due to my limited access, but in light of the comments made by the left about why people didn't vote for them, I would like to hit some more high points. I will try not to repeat the points from my earlier post. First of all, my dislike for Bush is one of the worst kept secrets on the internet. But just as equally poorly kept is my stance as a Libertarian. While I would not and did not vote for Bush, the latter stance makes it highly unlikely I will ever vote for a Democ...

Many liberals in America feel put off by the results of this past election. It bears mentioning that the reason the Republicans won does have something to do with the feelings of a good number of Americans towards the liberals who have insisted that we not only accept, but embrace their values as they decry our values as anachronistic. The fact of the matter is, the conservative values are no less valid than the liberal values. I stand firm against the liberal values because I have seen their...

"You don't demand respect; you earn it". These were words I was taught many years ago by a woman who raised us among a revolving door of "father figures", most of whom were abusive and/or drunk, some of whom took up residence for little more than a week (I believe it would be a conservative estimate to say that in the approximately 5 years I spent with my mother growing up, I had at least 10 "stepfathers"), and who, ultimately proved that she had earned our respect by leaving us without trans...

With the "official" results barely in, it has been no surprise to see the outcry and protests decrying a "stolen" election; and I am neither convinced of it nor convinced that the idea is altogether ridiculous; I straddle the fence on this one. But there are some issues that we should consider. If the electoral process has truly become so utterly corrupt, it is fair and reasonable to assume that nothing but violent revolution could see an end to it. Violent revolution is not an outcome for wh...

Two nights ago, I had the dubious fortune of listening on the radio as one of baseball's most cherished traditions was violently rooted from its moorings and the ghost of the Bambino was finally allowed to rest in whatever Elysian field exists for the immortals of the diamond. With fierce determination and a seemingly charmed World Series, the Boston Red Sox did not trail the St. Louis Cardinals a single inning, after accomplishing the unthinkable and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in...

Well, Texas has proved little different than Nevada in the area of employment. But I'm pleased to report employment IS available for those who diligently seek it, even if it may not be high paying. And the cost of living here is MUCH lower than Nevada. Since we have our car in order, we have a paper route that helps to pay some of the bills (which are, fortunately, not very high), and I am still drawing unemployment while seeking full time opportunities. I have my application in as custodian ...

In my last blog, I got us up to Lefors, now to continue the saga. When we arrived in Pampa, we picked up a car for $500. The trouble, as we discovered the next day, had to do with an electrical glitch due to the worst splicing of a battery cable I have ever seen. To top it off, the splice was uninsulated, so we took care of that right away. We got in Lefors the following morning, holding off the actual move another day, as we knew we would be sleeping on an inflatable mattress on the floor...

Well, here's the update on our trip out to Texas. Not sure how far I'll get in this blog, but I'll get you updated by and by. We made it into Las Vegas with just under the maximum number of checked bags and the full maximum of carry ons. We had to submit to a search of our bags by two mulletinas who, frankly, scared me more than a little...lol, but we got on the bus without incident and made it through to Kingman, Arizona, where we had to wait two hours and transfer busses. When the bus dr...

Well, Joeusers, I am back, albeit through library internet access. It will most likely be a couple of months before we can set up our home account again. I will give you guys the sordid details of our trip and settlement in blogs to follow shortly, but wanted to let you know first that we are alive and well. Sincerely, Gideon MacLeish

More than 1/3 of traditionally all female Wells college's students are currently camped out in the lobby of the school's administration building, or on the lawn outside. At issue is the board of trustees' decision to admit men to the college next year. Feeling that males will dominate the class, and that "coeducation silences women", the protestors say they will protest until the board reverses their decision. In my opinion, this is the 21st century equivalent of Martin Luther King walking...

In 18 hours, we will be on the road to Texas. Today has been exhausting. I couldn't do any moving yesterday, as I had a debilitating headache from a pinched nerve in my T5 vertebrae (it's a chronic headache, not a tension headache by definition, but in reality it is one, as it has to do with when those vertebrae are messed up). What that means in layman's terms is I could barely move out of bed without feeling like I was going to fall over. I have learned how to recover from the headache...
