As most of you who read my blogs regularly know, I am a fairly conservative Christian. As many of you also know, I am very staunchly against the federal marriage amendment. The latter position has brought me a whole lot of flames from my one other blogsite by many of my contemporaries. So, when I received a reply in my email to my article on that site today for my piece (which I reprinted here, entitled "Why we should NOT Support the Federal Marriage Amendment: a Conservative View), I h...

This is my 13th and final article on the Libertarian Party platform. The rest of the platform can be found in my archives under "politics". If you have further questions about the LP platform, you can go to: www.lp.or or contact me directly at miner432004@yahoo.com: The Libertarian Party: Working to slash your taxes! The Libertarian Party is working every day to cut your taxes. By contrast, professional politicians from the other parties just want more of your money, and are busy increasi...

In my current bout of unemployment, I was seriously considering returning to the mine to work in a few weeks. No more. The mine has been shut down for three weeks, first because of an MSHA (mine safety & health admin) violation, now because of flooding in Death Valley, where the mine is located. The MSHA citation came because they continued to produce ore after the fans broke, meaning the only ventilation going into the mine was that which was drifting down naturally, and there was very...

OK, folks. This time, I am going to post the entire article, from yahoo! news on this one. This is upsetting that such a mistake was made: Co. For this blog to make sense, I am going to have to go back a bit to a time I don't like to revisit. One of my past stepfathers (a man we'll call John Doe) was a man my mother met in a casino in Wendover, Nevada, and married in jail when he was in on a burglary charge. He was also the most sadistic man I ever met. One example of his twisted ways of doing things was when he beat me severely for leaving a coat at school (until I was bleeding rather steadily), then took us to the Great Salt La...

Argentina 89. USA 81. That's all that needs to be said about the end of dominance of men's basketball in the Olympics. That's all that needs to be said about the end of my viewing of the NBA. Team USA has become a dismal failure, because they would not become a team. The excellent movie "Miracle" is one sports movie that documents the making of a TEAM, albeit in a different sport, in one of the greatest games in sports history. To the basketball minded, I would suggest the movie "...

Forgive me, father, for I have sinned. In a response post to beebles' "Cows are Evil" Thread, I planned to post a hilarious sign holding smiley with a sign reading "don't feed the trolls". Unfortunately, I typed the url in wrong, and got his brother, an equally demonstrative smiley with a sign reading "I'm with your mom". This completely changes the context of things. For the record, I do not know beebles' mom, nor do I have sexual designs on her. I feel dirty, and condemned to wande...

Just a few thoughts to clear up some misconceptions on blogs. First, I do value the opinions of my readers, as long as there's a degree of respect given to my blog. In all of my time on joeuser, I have only deleted one response, and that was because the response was so vitriolic it wasn't worth commenting on. I won't allow such blogs to stand on my thread. If I feel it is important enough for me to respond, I will leave the original post. That is only fair; taking snippets out of contex...

For many years, my family and I lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. For those of you who don't know, Oshkosh is the site of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)'s annual fly-in. Over a million people come from around the globe for the week long event, which features flight demonstrations, notable aviators, and celebrity enthusiasts of all kind (John Denver was a regular when he was alive; Chuck Yeager and Dick Rutan make the trip every year as well). It is the largest civilian airshow in t...

OK, I'm a little miffed right now. I am really getting hacked at the proliferation of blogs denouncing Christianity and Christians. The reason they upset me is because of the blatant hypocrisy that is evidenced on them. If I were to write a lengthy article listing the bloody and violent history of Islam, I would be flamed, hard and heavy, even if everyone of my facts was thoroughly researched and referenced on the thread, and even if in the context of the post, I mentioned that this was...

OK, this one really hacks me. For those of you who don't know, the main 527 aimed at Nevada revolves around the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste repository, a congressional boondoggle that has received or been promised over $1 trillion in federal funding over a number of years. Yucca Mountain is, in short, a very bad idea, as it will involve the transportation of nuclear waste cross country to the Nevada site, which is close to the test range. This is intended to be achieved over unsecured rai...

Just over 7 years ago, I received the job that I truly thought would be my career. I was working with developmentally disabled adults in a group home setting. The following years seemed to confirm my feeling that this would become my career, as I advanced up the ladder as quickly as I could. Within a year, I was an assistant manager. Two years after that I was manager. I coauthored the Y2k disaster program for the 50 programs under our care, and authored the individual Y2k support plans fo...
