In my recent article on the now infamous picture of Brittney Spears driving with her baby on her lap, I discovered something interesting. A good number of people were quick to take up for Ms. Spears, to defend her and assert that she has the right to decide whether to place her baby in a car seat or not. And, see, they were right. But, with about three notable exceptions, all have been inconsistent. Apparently, to them, Ms. Spears' celebrity gives her a higher citizenship status than the rest...

Well, today I had to stop in at the county courthouse and use a notary. They're becoming familiar with me down there. I had to get my Personal Financial Statement notarized so I could have it mailed before the Feb 13 deadline. The Personal Financial Statement, for those who are unaware with this bureaucratic nightmare, is the draconian byproduct of campaign finance laws. In the state of Texas, it is an 18 page detailing of everything you've owned and everywhere you've worked in the previous y...

Pop singer Brittney Spears is defending herself over photos that show her driving with her baby on her lap instead of strapped to the car seat. She defends herself by saying that she was trying to avoid paparazzi and didn't have time to strap in her child. This incident, however, is a glaring example of the two sets of justice we have in America. If Brittney were an average citizen, that photo would have been more than enough evidence to remove Brittney's child from her home, due to con...

When we were discussing Islam and its tacit tolerance of the riots that have come to pass over the recent Danish cartoon fiasco, one blogger suggested that Indonesia was a model of Muslim tolerance and a refutation of the idea that Islam is by and large a destructive force. I would be interested to have that same individual explain to me why it is that the government of Indonesia is urging Danes to leave the country ( Link ). Why they do not stick up for the rights of these citizens, who had...

I want to be fair here. Not all liberals defend Islam. In fact, most that I know do NOT (except in the sense that they defend the rights of all humanity). But for those who do, their defense of Islam is inexplicable, considering their traditional political positions. Let's go over a few "liberal" positions for analysis, shall we? The environment : Liberals are quick to condemn our dependence on fossil fuels in the west. They are quick to decry our environmental atrocities, while failing to h...

As I have struggled for some time with the inexplicable celebrity of heiress Paris Hilton, I have come to the inescapable conclusion that we, as a society, NEED her and others like her. You see, to one extent, Paris represents an ideal that many of us, if pressed to be honest, aspire to. She has never had to work a day in her life, and, barring catastrophic collapse of the entire western world, never WILL need to do so. Her entire life is a life of leisure and luxury as she lives off of money...

Some time ago, I began using the term "the cult of victimhood". I use it to describe a disturbing trend I see in American society where, in place of personal accountability and responsibility, we have insisted on blaming someone else for our failings. I did so without an explanation. In this article, I'd like to explain the "cult of victimhood" so that I can use it for future reference (I'm also going to try a first for me...linking to is as a "sticky" on the sidebar so I can point new...

Several states are passing initiatives to assist Child Protective Services in bringing more children into US foster care. Foster care agencies are BEGGING for families to take in foster children. All of this is evidence that Child Protective Services is failing in its stated mission. You see, CPS repeatedly asserts that its primary goal is family reunification. They want these children returned to their families, or so they say. And it is entirely possible, even probable, that a good number o...

I couldn't come up with a creative title for this one, so I decided to put it under the title of "campaign update". Not a bad idea, though, it's good for my filing system when I go to put the book on the campaign together. I am currently poring over the 24 (YES, 24!!!!) pages of paperwork I have to fill out for my personal financial statement. I can't finish it until tomorrow, though, because I have some questions that I can only ask in "real time". It is the first of many deadlines I will fa...

I grew up in a society where entitlements were expected, solicited, and individuals spent far more time grousing about the oppression of "the man" than they did trying to find gainful employment. As I have begun growing out of that mentality, I have come to realize just why capitalism is a far better system than socialism, although there are problems with both. I see capitalism as an economic form of "tough love". The concept, for those unfamiliar with it, is to break the cycle of dependence ...

In reaction to the publication of an offensive image of Mohammed, Protestors have taken to the streets, lighting the Danish and Norwegian embassies in Damascus on fire. Apparently ignorant of the concept of free speech, this violence is in retribution for the governments allowing the publication of the offensive cartoon. When discussing the outrage, pundits have rightly turned to the now notorious "Piss Christ" in order to establish relevance in our majority Christian society. It is an apt co...

Texas A&M football fans are crying "fowl". Apparently, they originated the use of the term "12th man" early in their college football tradition. In 1990, they had the term trademarked. Now they are furious that the Seattle Seahawks are using the term "12th man" with their fans and some of the memorabilia they are distributing to the fans of the Superbowl bound birds. They are threatening legal action, and at least one columnist has written a harsh criticism of the team. There's a teeny...

On another blog, I entered my thoughts on the recent West Virginia mine disasters, insisting that someone who has never been in a mine cannot POSSIBLY understand what needs to be done to ensure the safety of miners. I stand by that statement, as the very bureaucracy upon which certain individuals insist may, in fact, be what led to the deaths in the first place. In the case of underground mining, firsthand knowledge is EXTREMELY relevant. Working several hundred feet underground is like worki...
