Well, today I had to stop in at the county courthouse and use a notary. They're becoming familiar with me down there. I had to get my Personal Financial Statement notarized so I could have it mailed before the Feb 13 deadline.
The Personal Financial Statement, for those who are unaware with this bureaucratic nightmare, is the draconian byproduct of campaign finance laws. In the state of Texas, it is an 18 page detailing of everything you've owned and everywhere you've worked in the previous year. If your spouse or children had net worth, all of their property and earnings must be listed as well. I have estimated that I will spend more time on financial reporting to the Texas Ethics commission than I will on taxes this year (then there's the nightmare of DOING the taxes from this year, especially if I receive campaign contributions. Not to worry, I think this will be a job for H&R Block next year...I really don't want to spend that much time on it personally).
But the PFS is filed, and that's one more deadline met. November seems a long way off, but I'm betting it'll be here quicker than I realize.
