The journey from there to here
Published on January 2, 2008 By Gideon MacLeish In Misc

My on again, off again dieting is on again. Now, it's not total yoyo dieting, as I didn't revert back to my biggest weight (at my worst, I neared the 400 pound mark; I got down to about 280 and plateaued; for the last four years I've been about 320), but still, I've gotten sidetracked on getting to my goal weight of 250 (I should probably be lower, but I figure I'll aim for 250, see how I feel, then go from there. Baby steps.)

So it was with some delight that I stepped on the scales last night and saw that I'd dropped 10 pounds. I'm not anal about scale watching, so it had been awhile since I checked, but still, it's good to see progress.

One of the benefits of the new school is that it has a fitness center so I will be able to get in there regularly. I intend to put it to good use. The goal is to get a good bent this spring and ride to work 2-3 days a week.

A bent is a bicycle right?

Why call them bents I wonder?  Is that a brand name?

Gee Gideon, you are wasting away!

Congrats and good luck. Staying with an exercise program or weight loss regimen just generally sucks until it becomes lifestyle. It is a tough battle, I know...hope you do well.

Thanks. I'm really hoping I can get "into" the twice weekly ride. Twice weekly's all I'll commit to at first, but I'm hoping riding a bent is as much fun as Mason says it is...if so, not only will I be in excellent shape by the end of the year, but I will have saved hundreds on gas!

Hey Gideon I'm confused. I thought you was through at Pampa. And I know it is two far to ride a bike from Lefors to Cayon. Are you guys going to move?

Good luck with the plan Gid! And congrats on the loss!

Unfortunately, we have no choice but to move. There's no way I can commute to a four year college, not at $3.00/gallon for gas. And the owners at work put everyone on a wage freeze. No raises this year. And I can't keep going on the wages I'm making, not with gas, heating costs, and planned legal expenses from living in Lefors in the future (the "incident" last December ultimately cost us over $2000. It hurt us BADLY financially). We had mulled over trying to split our time in the two places, but that won't work either.

I have a job offer in Guymon and we're headed up to Goodwell. I will miss this house and about 5 people in Lefors, but I will NOT miss Lefors.

Who is that thin man over there?

All the best on the weight loss front.  I wish I could say I'd try to join you, but I ain't gonna lie to you or others.  I love my food, and I want to eat what I want to eat.  I may cut back some, and I am trying to be a little healthier in my habits, but I'm not going to go nuts at it.  If it comes, it comes.  I've got about 60 pounds that I could stand to lose, but it's gonna come off little by little if at all.

I do definitely hope you are able to get yourself to where you want to be though.  Just be sure to note that if you lose weight I don't want to be the one who finds it.  I already find it far too easily for myself

wtg, you look svelte and healthier already.

Good luck.

I'll bet you probably already feel better even with just 10 lbs gone. It's amazing how even modest weight loss can affect your feelings of wellness.

Once you get your bent legs you'll wind up riding more than you think.

It does take a few weeks to get used to riding one as it uses different leg muscles than a diamond frame (riding a bent makes better use of the larger leg muscles). Just remember the key to riding a bent is to use a higher cadence (pedaling faster) instead of trying to push harder because your back is braced against the seat and you can blow out a knee if you get get carried away and try to push too hard against the pedals.

Good luck on the lard reduction.

Where are you going to finish your degree out at? Good luck! I understand about the cost to make the trip from Lefors to WT. My ex. did it when gas was not as high as it is now, and it was hard to make it then. In fact if my parents had not helped out it would not have been possible. What happen in Dec.? If you don't mind me asking. You can email me if you wish. tojuana4atgmail.com At times Lefors can be a wonderful place to live and then there is times when it really sucks. The people in the town are really set in their ways and no one should ever change anything. Which is really stupid if you ask me. If you don't change you can't grow. That explain a lot about Lefors.

What happen in Dec.?

Last year. The whole incident with the yard, the car, and the city marshall.

It cost me $250 in bail money, the rest in fines and fees to haul things off.

What I'm finding about Lefors is that they have a hide their head in the sand mentality, where they want to pretend that there is no problem. Over the last year, they've cost me one job with outright lies, they've made all manner of false accusations against us, and worst of all, Amy and the kids are completely isolated because nobody in the town will speak to them outside of our neighbours and about 4 other families. The Gees, of course, are friends, but they're hardly ever in town anymore.

I could deal with it if it were me they were attacking, but because they focus on Amy and the kids, it's another matter entirely. I don't think it's right to have the kids have to grow up in that kind of environment.

I'll be getting my B.B.A at OPSU up in Goodwell. Amy and the kids are very excited about the move.
