The journey from there to here

Recently, I wrote an article about how the left was unconcerned with several episodes of domestic spying. It was aimed at the left, to the exclusion of the right, who is equally culpable, for a reason.

You see, the left has expressed complete outrage over the information that phones of suspected terrorists were wiretapped under FISA law without warrants (but, according to many sources, with judicial oversight). The left was right to be concerned, and is right to ask that the facts of the case be investigated. I have never disagreed with them on that point, but have stopped short of pronouncing the president guilty or of calling for his impeachment prematurely.

But for all their outrage over the NSA wiretaps, many on the left continue to ignore, and in some cases, to outright AID and ABET the domestic spying of other individuals without warrants by government agents that aren't even trained law enforcement agents! I am speaking, of course, about CPS, and about the recent revelations we received that we are being spied upon within our community. The ACLU won't touch it, and not one single civil rights group seems to want it either, despite the fact that this is a clear violation of our constitutional rights. We are under a virtual house arrest, and I have even had to prepare cards for my children to hand to officials stating that they won't speak to them without an attorney or their mom or I present...and this despite the fact that, not only have we not been found GUILTY of any wrongdoing, we have actually been CLEARED of allegations of wrongdoing.

This isn't a matter of simple paranoia, in fact, I stand guilty of not being paranoid ENOUGH. I had been bringing my children with me to the library, unaware of the fact that CPS has been sending social workers in to take notes and make observations of our children on a regular basis (the library personnel have estimated it at 2 to 3 times a week, and we are taking notes to document any such actions in the future). We will, of course, notify the state Attorney General's office and the state ombudsman's office on Monday, but that is only going to be the starting point (I'm researching what we need to do to gather information for a restraining order).

Until the left is as outraged at the harassment of law abiding citizens within this country as they are about the wiretapping of terror suspects, I will CONTINUE to hammer away at them. After all, you must ask, which is more pressing, the HYPOTHETICAL violation of the rights of hundreds, if not thousands of individuals, or the VERY REAL, VERY PRESENT violation of the rights of hundreds of THOUSANDS, if not MILLIONS of American citizens?

Now, let me be clear that some on the left have been supportive of the changes that I and others possess. In fact, I have an entire folder of information gathered from the research of the good people at the National Center for Child Protection Reform, who propose fairly liberal solutions to the problems presented by current CPS actions, and I thank them for it, even if I don't agree entirely on the solutions. But even they are on the fringe; the majority of leftist organizations that I have approached with some of this information, do not care, or cannot be bothered.

We may have finally hit a breakthrough, and our story may soon break open on a larger stage. But the news organization that is poised to break the story is definitely NOT a leftist organization.

When the government starts screwing with it's own citizens, it is the time for major reform.

I wish I could be less than cryptic, but I'm holding off until I know. I will say this much, however: the source, while controversial, will be instantly and universally recognizable. If we can get national attention focused on our case, that may be all it takes to get these folks to back off their unwarranted and malicious attacks.

It should be the greatest outrage.  But politicians (left and right) are simply oppotunists.  Sadly.

More thaan just left and right, dr. Guy. Politicians of every flavor are opportunists. It's the best way to win votes.

I'm trying to use it to my advantage within the LP, though, by trying to convince LP leaders and candidates that rallying behind the CPS issue will increase the party's support base substantially.

As to the possible news story breaking, I will say this much. Never throw out your old address book contacts. EVER.

Since I have started on JU, I have found more and more in common with you, than with republicans.  indeed, I am not registered.  many say that Ju cannot convert, only pontificate.  I dont think so.

I am not now a libertarian.  But I am closer to being one now than at any point in my life.  Why?  Philosophy greatly.  But your education in that regard has a lot to do with it.

I do not like what 'is' the republicans.  I do like what you state, and agree with it a lot (we do have our differences).

I am still independant.  For now.
