The journey from there to here
...well, sorta!

I received a piece of mail yesterday. As a "card carrying libertarian", I receive literally dozens of fund raising letters per month, and thought this would be one of those good causes destined for the round file due to the fact that much of my dispensary income is currently relegated to the campaign and my own underfunded causes. But I opened it, because even fund raising letters often contain good, relevant information.

It was from "Americans for Prosperity-Texas", a group trying to pass a Taxpayer's bill of rights that would limit state spending growth to population growth plus inflation and a bill that would disallow lobbying that is done using taxpayer funding. Both issues are issues that I can get behind, and my opponent is NOT a signatory to the proposed legislation.

And so I contacted the organization about getting more information for my campaign. I can support these objectives fully, and will not only support them, but will educate people about them in the course of my campaign. It gives me a broader platform, as well as potential campaign support.

While I'm still the darkest of dark horses here, it gives me a sense of legitimacy and pride to have an endorsement, even if it's not a direct endorsement. I know I'll get a whole lot more letters from various organizations, and will have to pick and choose, but any group that will help me more clearly define my objectives such as this one is worth standing behind.
