The journey from there to here

So, I was listening to talk radio the other day (I can't remember the topic), and a respondent called in deriding Pat Robertson (as a representative of us "terrorist" Christian factions) for "calling lightning down" on Dover, Pennsylvania. If his were the only such view of the left, I would dismiss him as an extremist. But I have heard various others speak about Pat Robertson threatening Pennsylvania with God's wrath, when in fact, he did no such thing, and more importantly: Not ONE SINGLE MSM reporter reported it as such. I am beginning to think that the liberals of this nation have a reading and listening comprehension problem that is at the core of their often misguided philosophy. Too many can't think outside of eight second soundbites, and in fact, this paragraph is probably all they will read of this article.

Here is what Pat Robertson said, word for word:

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city," Robertson said on his daily television show broadcast from Virginia, "The 700 Club."

"And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there," he said.

Now, before I say ONE SINGLE WORD (and this is important, libs, so as Michael Medved would say, "focus like a laser beam"), let me first say that I have STRONG ideological differences with Pat Robertson. My theology does not even begin to resemble his. But he DOES have a point. It would be hypocritical for these people to cry out to a God that they don't believe in, that they don't want represented in their community. If they believe in "the brotherhood and sisterhood of humanity", let that brotherhood bail them out of that mess. If they believe in nothing, let them pull their own damn selves out of the mess. But don't invoke the name of a God that you detest to save your sorry butts.

Having said that, I believe God is much bigger than I and would probably help out anyway. But if something DOES happen, you ain't getting MY nickel!

I think Robertson is extremely arrogant to pretend to speak for God, and on that alone, I would BBQ him.  However, your point is 100% on target.  If you are going to denounce someone, do it for what they say, not what you want them to say.
