The journey from there to here

I think I'm going to get myself a bumper sticker that states "my leader is less inept than YOUR leader". Why? Well, apparently Jacques Chirac has enacted a curfew, hoping it will bring an end to rioting that has neared the two week mark and that has spread to over 300 French cities, and is apparently spreading to Germany and Belgium.

From reports I have heard, however, French police will not go into the neighborhoods where the rioting is taking place. This leaves it to the French military, which has, umm, questionable ability at best. This means that any curfew is likely to be ineffective as even the best equipped military is unlikely to fight a war on 300 different fronts (Just a personal guess, but I'm guessing these riots wouldn't have lasted out the first weekend if it wasn't for France's ridiculously restrictive gun control laws...but I digress).

So, basically, Chirac is telling the rioters to "go home". Yeah, that'll work, Jacques. These folks have shown they respect the rule of law (rolling eyes).

My money's on France making a call to the White House in a couple weeks asking us to bail them out of their stupid messes for the third time in the last century (first, WW2, second, Vietnam, third....NOW!). Any takers?

Was France occupied during WWI, though? I don't recall.

Half of it was.  Almost the whole war was fought on French Soil. I dont beleive the allies ever made it in to Germany before they sued for peace.

Yes, yes, I'm sure that since the laws about burning cars and causing mayhem didn't stop them, this curfew will.

All this does is allow the police to "crack down" on anyone they find after dark, shoving the disgruntled a little further into their ghettos. I bet that'll make them less apt to riot.

Half of France wasn't occupied during the war, though it was fought on French Soil for 4 years, so I won't argue that.

One of the most glaring problems that arose in Iraq was the anarchy that ensued following the fall of Baghdad.

The unwillingness of the French government to immediately reestablish order forcefully led to the riots spreading across the entire country. This is not going end any time soon, not until someone in France with balls rises up and ruthlessly crushes the barbarian hordes. It's just going to keep feeding off its own momentum.

Eleven days before a curfew is even declared? Is that a joke? This anarchy is the result of moral posturing, posturing as it comes from Leftists.
