My least favorite legislative branch of the government, the Supreme Court of the United States, decided yesterday that the beef industry could continue charging all beef ranchers in the US a tax per head of cattle to pay for beef industry advertising. Though the tax is a minimal $1 a head, you cannot professionally raise cattle in America without paying it.
Their decision is, interestingly enough, almost a complete reversal of their support of the right to work laws in various states, which leads me to think that any challenge to these laws that would be brought before their bench would be upheld in this era.
No individual should be forced to pay union dues, or any similar financial tribute to any organization whose assistance they did not solicit, nor do they, in fact, want. This is an inexcusable example of mafia "protectionism", and any government that supports these mandatory forfeiture laws should be ashamed of itself. Furthermore, Congress should press for a Constitutional amendment establishing terms of office for Supreme Court justices so that continual legislating from the bench can lead to their eventual removal from office without the need for impeachment hearings.
The Supreme Court has gone far beyond the arena in which the Constitution intended for it to exercise its power. The continual legislation from the bench has undermined states' rights greatly and removed the concept of democracy from our present government.
