The journey from there to here
Published on April 19, 2005 By Gideon MacLeish In Blogging

I have seen enough.

The name calling and ill feelings on JoeUser have gone pretty far off topic (I won't use the word "vitriol",as it's overused). I've had enough.

While I defer to you the right to do whatever you like on your own thread, It's not going to happen on mine.

To that end, I am announcing a general blacklist amnesty. If you have been on my blacklist before, you will be removed, with one unmentioned exception. If you're not removed, wait a short while and you will be.

After that, the ground rules for comments on my blog are an end to name calling. All anonymous users' comments will be deleted if they contain vulgarity directed against another user. I do not mind vulgarity if it expresses strong feelings towards the TOPIC, but I will have ZERO tolerance for off topic, personal attacks. If you want to hijack my thread, fine. But don't hijack it with a personal agenda or an attack on another user (attacks on politicians and other public figures are another matter). This blog, at least, will not be a forum for such attacks. I don't care if you're left, right or middle, we need to respect the individual presenting the argument if not the argument itself.

I want my blogs to contain a lot of intelligent debate and discussion. I welcome opposing views. But I don't welcome hurtful words directed at other individuals (and you KNOW some of the instances to which I am referring). So, please, on my blog at least, let's keep it civil, ok?

Asked and granted, though it says a lot about you that you REFUSE to treat other bloggers with respect.

I don't understand sushik... I can't stand for someone to blacklist me.

Gideon sometimes telling people what the bible says is construed as hate speech, when in fact it is a manifestation of love? How will you guideline?

preacher,

my guidelines are simply that I won't tolerate personal attacks. Stating what the bible says is not a personal attack, it is a statement of fact.

My specific concern is the name calling.

and LW, let's play nice now:). You have your own blog to name call on...lol

You mean I cant call them a ^#&&^#^^#((

or a

@#%#)#?

Damn, there goes half my vocabulary.

LW,

if it is stated as a passage from the bible I really have no problem with it (or the Qu'Ran, Torah,or the Bhavad-Gita, for that matter). I'm not trying to stifle free speech here, I'm trying to get rid of the ridiculous name calling that is going to a ridiculous extreme.

Gideon: While I am often a potty-mouth, I can definitely respect your request. I have my own blog to talk shi...umm...stuff... on.

Texas,

Precisely. I won't judge someone for what they do and don't do on their blog, I have just felt pulled into the middle of arguments between friends too often.

Heck I might even intentionally insult someone on my OWN blog. The issue here is HIJACKERS who use the blog to attack others off topic.
