The journey from there to here

Well, I was one of the twenty or so Americans who WANTED to watch the Super Bowl, but couldn't. We don't have the money in our budget for "pay TV", and my neighbor's antenna doesn't pull in FOX (and we haven't been able to construct an antenna tower yet anyhoo). So, I turned on my 30 year old stereo (excuse me....back then they called 'em "hi-fi's"), and flipped it to the same AM station I had used to listen to the NFC playoff games. Unlike the NFC playoff games; however, I was actually able to find a backup channel that carried the game (this will be notable later).

During the first quarter, the radio broadcast was uneventful. Early in the second quarter, however, I heard the unmistakable strains of mariachi music, as the neighboring Spanish station was overtaking my frequency. I was able to sort out the game broadcast until late in the second quarter, when the mariachi music finally overpowered, and I was forced to switch to the backup station.

The backup station gave me a discernible broadcast until just about the two minute warning. After that, I was straining to hear what little I could while some talk radio host blathered on about the state of the union speech on the neighboring channel.

The halftime show was digital quality. Go figure.

The beginning of the second half started well, and I was on my third beer. Late in the third quarter, it was mariachi time again. Back to the backup channel. I got good reception until (again) the two minute warning, and was fortunately able to piece together the remainder of the game by switching between the two stations so I wasn't the only American in the world getting up this morning asking "who won?"

Just a thought.  Many radio stations stream over the Internet.  Where I live, unless they are 16-0, the TV stations never show my Raiders.  However, I have found 2 or 3 stations that do.  On the Internet of course!

Sorry, Philly lost 24-21.
