The journey from there to here

I think I am going to purchase a cane in the near future.

Let me explain...no, that would take too long, let me sum up.

I have a problem with ankles that tend to pronate (roll inwards). This has caused me an inordinate number of sprained ankles over my lifetime, and is a frequent enough problem that usually, when it occurs, I'm conditioned to "roll with the punches", and collapse, causing the ankle to turn without bearing the weight and trauma of my rather large frame, and thus avoiding serious injury.

But it doesn't always work that way.

I was scavenging some plywood today, and had to take the "long way" around the guy's house to the truck, as he lives in front of the school and there were basketball games today. I approached the truck, failed to notice the drop from the curb, and Whammo! Intense, searing pain from my ankle (the kind of pain that pretty much tells you at onset you're out of commission for awhile). So, I climbed into the truck (plywood scavenging mission briefly aborted), went home, and, after nursing my rather sore appendage for awhile, hobbled to the neighbor's house, using the walls for support. I knew he had some canes, so I needed to borrow one until I am in better shape.

So now I'm hobbling around on the cane, and seriously considering purchasing one for myself, should it happen again.

I try to be upbeat and optimistic, and I HAVE already seen an upside to this whole thing. Later today, I'm a-going to Walmart to ride through the store on their little electric carts in good conscience. YEE-HAH!
