The journey from there to here

OK. If the library woulda let me have coffee at the computer, I woulda spewed it.

Apparently, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival has given Leonardo DiCaprio an award based on his lifetime achievements.

Now, I will not question that DiCaprio has put out an impressive body of work, his teen idolship notwithstanding (although I consider his best role to have been in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" rather than "Titanic", but I digress). The point is, he's 30 years old.

One would hope that he has a lifetime of work AHEAD of him,not behind him.

This was most likely another one of those "Hollywood pats itself on the back" awards geared to gain publicity, and it is shameful. One would wish that Dicaprio had the cajones to reject the award, but instead, he's at home redesigning his trophy case.

It is rotten when your life is over at 30! ;-(

The only truly earned "lifetime achievement award" was MTV bestowing that honor on Clint Howard, then retiring the category. ;~D

The only way a "lifetime achievement award" is really what it says it is, would be if given posthumously.

I totally, totally agree. I can't believe that after all the great actors that we have/had over the years, that an actor/actress is honored with a lifetime achievement award at the age of 30. Gee, what about the other actors that have staked there claim in hollywood as legends, not hearththrobe turned serious actor.

One would wish that Dicaprio had the cajones to reject the award, but instead, he's at home redesigning his trophy case.

I hope so too, I would have more respect for Dicaprio if he did turned it down. But in hollywood, you got to do anything for the extra publicity.
