The journey from there to here

This from the "Get a Life!" Department.

The latest group of outraged conservative Christians is claiming that Spongebob Squarepants is promoting homosexuality!

Have any of these idiots SEEN this show? It is a silly kids' show, sometimes with ridiculous, inane humor, but a kids' show nonetheless. The only person spongebob seems "hot for" is Sanday the Squirrel who is *ahem!* of the FEMALE persuasion. Perhaps these Christian groups could better organize their arguments around it promoting sex between the species (even though the cartoon is ASEXUAL in nature...the writers of the cartoon apparently being deceived into thinking that sexual material is INAPPROPRIATE for children.

From my own empirical experience, I have watched several episodes of the show, and it hasn't increased my desire one whit to comingle with a member of the opposite sex. CHIPS had more of a homosexual undertone than this show does.

Get a LIFE, folks!

Yeah, I always thought that Bugs Bunny was promoting homosexuality when he would dress up like a girl bunny and get married to Elmer Fudd.

These cartoons are insidious.

How about the great Bert and Ernie gay conspiracy - these people obviously have way too much time on their hands.

I thought that was the Bert supporting Saddam Theory?  There was another?

G.M,

I think you are either unaware of the situation or hideously over-simplifying it. The issue isn't the sexuality of a cartoon character. It is the hijacking of characters kids love to promote a very subjective level of tolerance to kids as young as second grade. The materials made available with the DVD carry tolerance.org's "tolerance pledge", which includes "sexual identity" among its list of things to be tolerated.

It is damn cheesy, imho, to use cartoon characters to promote an agenda that most parents aren't comfortable having in public school at all. This isn't going to be taught by SpongeBob, rather the interpretation will be dictated by all the teachers who are handed the materials. Who knows what will be dealt with and how.

Instead of posting this over and over, I just went ahead and wrote a blog myself. This is like the umpteenth blog that is knee-jerking this to hell, and I'm tired of chiming in...
