On a day that many of us would like to see devoted to peace and understanding, a South Korean news agency has reported that a large explosion with a mushroom cloud took place on Thursday, September 9, in the northern part of North Korea. The day, was the 56th anniversary of the communist regime.
Witnesses say the mushroom cloud was 3.5-4 kilometers (2-2 1/2 miles) in diameter, and a crater was left large enough to be seen by satellite.
Although there is currently no evidence to link this explosion to North Korea's nuclear development program, experts have long surmised the regime would use the holiday to test its weapons capabilities.
