The First Rule I am Going to Teach My Daughters About Men

OK, this bugs me.

I was reading one blog where the woman talked about a new love interest who had a couple previous engagements where the women dumped him, but for what the young lady considered little things.

This always disturbs me. If a man is talking about previous relationships that failed and they always center on what the woman did to him, how she wronged him, etc, etc, etc....this should be a VERY serious red flag. Either this guy has incredibly poor judgement in women, or you're not getting the whole story...and in my experiences with friends, sisters, cousins, etc, in relationships with men like this, it has ALWAYS been the case that the man wasn't telling the whole story.

I don't know the young lady well enough to step in and mention this to her, but...I will be DAMN sure when my girls are older that they're privvy to this piece of information.

Well, anyone who's always busy pointing the fingers of blame isn't really too interested in their own behaviour. That lesson, can be pointed out at practically any age and about both sexes. It's more about the attitude than a male/female thing, I think.

I dunno, Gid; the thing that kept me from dating losers was my parents always telling me to make sure I dated/married men who worked hard and respected their mothers. That and having self-esteem are probably what kept me sane throughout the dating years.

Spoken like someone without kids

I know from my experience that I listened to my dad. If you aren't a screw up of a person, your kids are bound to listen to you. My dad is a successful, intelligent, respectable man so I listened to his advice. I didn't mess up my life in any way and have spent the past 12 years (over 10 married) with my best friend. I also believe it is true that girls look for men who are like their fathers. My hubby is different from my dad in many important ways but he shares the successfullness, intelligence and respectability I saw in my dad.

Gid, I don't see how your daughters can go wrong
