The journey from there to here

After reading my 5,342,719th article bashing either Kerry or Bush on their VietNam service, or lack thereof, I am fed up. Truth be told, both played a very serious part in my decision to not vote for either of them. Instead of saying "I should be president because"; each is saying "he should not be president because"..., and both are ignoring the issues.

The truth of the matter is, what you did or did not do 30 years ago doesn't qualify you to be president NOW.

The truth of the matter is, we are in a nation faced with continuing unemployment, economic instability, and fear, among other things. What we want, nay, NEED to know is: how will your election insure the peace and tranquility we have largely enjoyed in this country? How will your election address the outsourcing of jobs that has left a large number of citizens un- or underemployed? How will your election help to address the issues of the economy, education, the environment, terror threats, international diplomacy?

These questions remain unanswered. The reasons why, in my opinion, are clear. George W. Bush has not addressed these questions to the satisfaction of many voters, and the ideas that Kerry brings to the table are not new, they're not fresh, they're not unique. They're the standard pithy phrases and feel good rhetoric that is put out by the pulp writing Democratic speechwriters. To say that both candidates are out of touch with their constituents is an understatement; Bush has never BEEN in touch with the constituents, and Kerry relies too heavily on his advisors.

Both men should be ashamed of themselves for aspiring to the highest office in the land with such an intense disregard for the people charged with getting them there.

signing off,

I agree with you Gideon, but then I also agree with the statement "We get exactly the government we deserve" (I don't remember exactly how it goes or who said it).

Guys, ask your self this question:

DO YOU REALLY WANT 4 MORE YEARS OF GEORGE BUSH?
on Aug 22, 2004
I have to agree with Gideon here... Not nearly enough focus has been on the issues because of all the other BS that's been going on. I think the closer we get to the debates, the more the issues will start to take shape.

Gideon: Fantastic post.

I think you really nailed it right there . . . many people feel disillusioned and jaded because of the spiteful antics that are taking place on both sides . . . the true issues and platforms of the candidates have been buried underneath layers and layers of insults, photo ops, and spin. The campaigns seem so petty and riddled with dishonesty and diliberate ommissions. Yuck. I think Bill Pullman from Independence Day made a good president . . . let's write him in.

There is definitely truth to that. Thanks for replying

No, but I don't want 4 years of Kerry either.

I think the closer we get to the debates, the more the issues will start to take shape.

Let's hope so.

Actually, how about Kevin Kline from "Dave"?

thanks for the replies, everyone.

This Swift Boat debat definitely detracts from real debate (see my first post on this Link )

The thing that bothers me though is that politicians and 527s wouldn't show these ads if people didn't actually respond to them. So this is an appeal to everyone. If you see a negative add, just ignore. The charges are probably either false or grossly exagerrated. Vote for a candidate on the issues and what he or she promises to do

The ads in question are playing to the choir. The real question to me is why no one is making people aware of Kerry's two-decades of counter-culture voting. Maybe, MAYBE his votes were demonstrative of the ultra-liberal folks that put him in power in his state, but they were way out of line with the overall will of the American people.

I think... well, hope, that as we get closer to November Kerry's service in Congress will be brought into sharp detail. Even Democrats should be asking questions about it.

I don't know, I kind of like Josiah bartlet from the west wing. A little liberal but none the less a good president.
