The journey from there to here
Recently, a couple of unrelated blogs have kind of challenged me as to whether I would take back some of my statements or not, which got me to thinking, and I have an answer to that.

I take back nothing.

You will not find me deleting past articles or responses; my words are a matter of record, and I stand behind them. If someone is truly hurt by the way I state something, I may apologize for the way I have said something, but I will not apologize for what was said. My opinions are one of the things I can truly call my own, and I have a right to them.

I do believe in and desire a peaceful coexistence with others, but not at the expense of my identity. A "kinder, gentler" Gideon would be one without an identity. I try to avoud name calling and limit my profanity. I have pissed off a few joeusers, but I have inspired a few others.

There is no constitutional right to not be offended, nor do I ever intend to honor one.

I stand by all of my statements

signing off,

Gideon MacLeish

As long as "kinder, gentler" does not become "more boringer" I figure that is fairly unlikely for you Gid, since even if you don't call them strange names like a pal of mine here you can still stir it up a bit.

"I take back nothing...for my [mis]statements."  Is this you or Bush?

I confess I am largely clueless as to the recent drama on here Gideon so I don't even know if it applies here but sometimes an "I was wrong" does help a bit. Just a thought.

They are not strange!

grey,

I have said before I will apologize for the way I said something at times, not what I said. Basically, one of JU's most vitriolic users made the statement that he was constantly being personally attacked, and I responded by saying he lobbed his own attacks, for which I was rewarded with a stream of profanity about how he was the most emotionally controlled individual and he imagined I had much I would like to take back (a gross paraphrase).

The other post, for which I DID apologize for the way it was misconstrued, was over my questions over the long running JU drama involving one of JU's teens.
