The journey from there to here

Over 12 years ago, when our first child was born, we named her "Destiny". My wife suggested it, I went along with it, and that summer she was born.

Over the years, we've gotten a couple of comments on the name. While most like it, you get a few who shy away from anything outside of Mary, Betty, or the other standard names. Unfortunately, those idiots are usually the most vocally. We lived, like most parents, in the hopes we wouldn't have a child who would grow up to hate her name.

Well, see, my wife's foresight those dozen years ago, landed us on the "cool" list, at least in Destiny's eyes. Like many other kids her age, she's enamored with Hannah Montana (a fascination we indulge, as there are far worse things she could be listening to, and we want her to develop her own style and taste). As a matter of fact, she now has the distinction of Hannah Montana's CD being the first CD she purchased (although, she showed daddy's frugality by buying the double CD with 10 Miley Cyrus songs and 10 "Hannah Montana" songs, getting a better value. Go me!).

Well, not long ago, she was surfing the Internet and discovered Miley Cyrus' birth name. And since she's also named Destiny, we get to be cool parents for awhile, at least!

You don't know it, but you may have just provided the sign I was looking for this morning.

If it ever pans out, I'll let you know.

(Was that cryptic enough? )

Relish being cool while it lasts.  They make all the heartache worth it.

Too cryptic, Gene. I'm confused.

Certainly an interesting name, and should lead to many opportunities to discuss the name over the course of her lifetime.

i think that all girls named destiny should be singing stars.

i also think that all dads that agree to name their girls destiny should be flogged.

My six year old and all her friend love Hannah Montana too! Your Destiny is quite a star already by the sound of it!
