The journey from there to here
Published on December 14, 2007 By Gideon MacLeish In Current Events

Well, as of yesterday, it's all over but the shouting.

For too many years, I've had to live with the stigma of being a "college dropout". It never matters the reason, once you have the tag, there are some individuals who feel it makes you substandard or somehow less of a person, or worse yet, that having a degree makes you a more substantial individual.

Well, as of yesterday, the issue is, if you'll pardon the pun, academic. I am officially a college graduate. Yes, it's just an Associates, but it's an accredited degree. And it makes the long hours and short nights of the past year and a half completely worth it.

I have another announcement, but I'll save that for the more tech savvy crowd!

I also managed to hold a perfect 4.0 through all three (and one summer) semesters!

Nobody can accuse me of coasting through it! LOL!

congratulations for sure!

hell if you'd just asked i coulda done this for you:

therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the universitartus committiartum e pluribus unum, i hereby confer upon you the honorary degree of thd.

(since there's no scarecrow to ask, that's... doctor of thinkology)

Yeah, unfortunately in my family, where not having a college degree is the greatest shame a person could ask for, the thd wouldn't get me very far...lol!

Thanks, folks, for the congrats and the well wishes.

Congratulations Gideon! Now you can join the rest of us unwashed masses who walk around with puffed shirts - no smarter than yesterday, but with that Diploma!

'zactly.

But it, and my certs, should lead to some better job offers, which was the intent to begin with.

Congratulations! You blazed through that sucker - how long did it take? A year and a half? two years?

Top work! I hope you find it useful, God knows mine has been, and often at the most unexpected times.

A year and a half.

This last semester was "light" with only 14 credits. The previous academic year, I knocked off 44 credits in 9 months (6 via CLEP), and 50 credits in a year.

Which is not horribly impressive until you consider that I knocked off two certs and maintained a perfect 4.0, while working one full time and one part time job!

not to mention your consistent volume/quality posting here. based on that alone--if things were run correctly--you should be a candidate for a full degree in several disciplines.
