The journey from there to here

This past week I put the finishing touches on another song. Well, as finished as I get, which ain't that finished by contemporary professional standards. That brings my count for 2007 to 6 that are good enough to work with. Not bad for someone who hasn't spent their whole life doing it.

Out of the 6, I'm becoming more convinced that "Superman" is a gem of a song. I get requests for it whenever I play, and I have had several people tell me I need to sell it. And that's what I'm working on at the moment.

"Superman" isn't polished musically. I still need to insert a couple minor chords in the arrangement (I have a few veterans helping me with that), but the song has opened a lot of doors. Musicians who were skeptical about working with me (hey, a middle aged songwriter with nothing to their credit doesn't exactly have "Nashville" written all over him!) have jumped on board, and what was a quest to put out a basic demo may wind up with a lot more than I thought possible.

I'm going to be interested in hearing what Woody's family has to say about "Superman" in a few weeks. I'll be playing it at the festival. Meanwhile, I'm excited just at the opportunities that have been offered since I first played that tune.

I read your last but did not comment.  I dont think I have read 6 of them, but of the 4 I remember, Superman is a hit!  Songs are like life.  YOu have to be there.  And that one I have been there.

and I like it a lot!

I'll admit, when I put this CD together, I'll be a little disappointed if "Superman" is the only one anyone ever knows.

But I guess it would be better to be a one hit wonder than a NO hit wonder, eh?
