Right now, I'm a little overwhelmed.
Want an analogy? OK, I feel like a pitcher with a career 6.00 ERA suddenly throwing back to back no hitters. Like a career third string quarterback suddenly winning back to back Superbowls.
OK, I'll back up a little bit.
See, last week a friend I met in Okemah came out to Pampa to visit. He left today, but over the week I found a person that has fueld my creativity to a point where I am genuinely overwhelmed. In the past 48 hours, i have produced 4 songs (the lesser two of these are posted here; one of the two won't be posted here, because you need to hear it rather than see it for full effect). And I mean, two of these songs are AMAZING! When I sang the first one (the second one I wrote on the way home from the bus station so noone but my wife has heard it), my friend (who is even better versed in Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan than I am) was amazed. It's a song I've been trying to write for months that suddenly came out in a rush.
And now this song.
In all my life I've never written anything CLOSE to this good. Now I need to spend the next two months getting it ready to record. My friend will be back to help me in the studio.
As much as I'm sad to see him go, it's probably a good thing. There's NO WAY I could sustain this pace for any length of time.
