The journey from there to here

I'm stoked! For the second time in a week, I hit the "bargain bin bonanza". Last week, I pulled three goodies out of the used CD rack. They were:

Midnight Oil: Blue Sky Mining (Not "Diesel and Dust", but a solid album...especially for two bucks. And the track "Blue Sky Mine" has a little more punch since I've actually BEEN a miner)

The Fixx: Greatest Hits (Again, a solid hits...I think this one cost me three bucks. Very good buy, IMO)

REM: Automatic for the People (in my opinion, REM's ultimate CD. 5 bucks)

So, three solid albums for the playlist for ten bucks. Can't complain.

This week's finds weren't as good as last week's (there's an Arlo CD I'll prolly go back for next week if it's still there). This week, I must admit, I went in for two CD's. One CD (The Clash: The singles) was there. I was excited because it was labelled as an import, but it didn't have any extra tracks over the American LP, which I previously owned...but it was what I was looking for, so I can't complain. The other CD (The Pogues: If I Should Fall From the Grace of God) wasn't there...I didn't figure it would be, truthfully, but as long as Amazon's around I shouldn't have trouble finding it. But in addition to the Clash CD, I found:

Natalie Merchant: The House Carpenter's Daughter (been waiting to buy that one, actually...and the $9.00 price tag put it into the attractive buy category...it looked hardly used, meaning the purchaser probably either bought it and burned it, or bought it, found out it wasn't "Tigerlily" and returned it...the cynical side of me's leaning to the latter). I love Natalie Merchant's stuff, and this had a few gems that I, as a folk music afficianado, was quite anxious to hear Ms. Merchant play (she delivered beautifully, as expected)

Midnight Oil: Diesel and Dust (it wasn't around when I bought "Blue Sky Mining", so I was glad to see it this go round. From the looks of the bargain bin, it appears someone turned in their entire Midnight Oil collection...their loss, at $3.00, my gain).

I think for a moment I saw my Windows Media Player smiling at me...

I wish we had a good bargain bin place around here. I've already picked over all the good used CD places in a forty mile radius . . . all that's left is that crap. Oh well. Such is life. I need to go see if I can find Vespertine there . . . I haven't heard that album in years, and it's brilliant.

That crazy swedish chick.

We don't have the best bargain bin, and it's actually rare for me to come across 5 albums on my "highly desirable list" in the space of two weeks, as I've done here (I'm completely stoked about the Natalie Merchant CD...I LOVE her stuff). When we get a new minivan (prolly with taxes), we'll have to head out to Amarillo and check things over.

If you're up to exchanging "want lists", I'm game. I'd be glad to hunt for someone else as well, while I'm out and about.

oh, and...

Surfing the net, sipping a DP, and listening to "Train in Vain"...all is right with the world!
