The journey from there to here

Well, yesterday was the full day of the Woody Guthrie Tribute in the city nearest us. I had played the night before, as I noted earlier, but unfortunately had to spend my day until 1:00 pm working behind the tech support desk at work to get my hours in. A slow day, really, but I'd have much rather been at the Tribute. But when you've got bills to pay, you've got bills to pay.

After picking up the family, the guitar, and all of the assorted accessories to go with both, we headed back to town. Spent a good part of the day playing, and a better part philosophizing and sharing stories with some of the people who knew Woody best. Got a couple new songs to work on before next year's tribute, and several good contacts for me as I continue my playing.

About nine o'clock at night; however, I began to feel sick. Not just sick, but REALLY sick. I was more than a little concerned, and we had to call it a night and head on home. I figure it was just a case of exhaustion; for the past several weeks, I've been burning the candle at both ends and looking for another end to burn. I went to bed, and, while I feel better today, I'm still taking it easy.

It was a delight meeting Woody's family. Woody's sister gave me her contact info to get ahold of her with any questions. I have a million, most of 'em just didn't come up at the right time.

I think it was nerves.  From your reports you have been on a great high!  Thanks for sharing.  I hope you get another chance.  For now, enjoy the glow (and get rid of the bug if it is one).

Nah, I was pretty at ease with the family. I wished I wasn't feeling so lousy last night so I could've spent more time with them. I'm pretty sure exhaustion's the culprit, coupled with a lousy diet from being always on the go.

To give you an idea what my past few weeks have been like, I'll use last week as an example. On Monday, I had class from 8-12, work from 1-6:30, and play rehearsal from 7-9. Tuesday, same schedule. Wednesday, class from 8-12, work from 1-9. Thursdau, class from 8-12, work from 1-6:30, rehearsal from 7-9. Friday, work from 8-5, jam session from 7-9. Saturday, work from 8-1, Woody Guthrie Tribute from 2-10.

Excepting the Guthrie Tribute, the last five weeks have been a similarly harsh schedule. Last night, I was wiped.
