The journey from there to here

Allow me to be the first to comment on the new forum layout.

I was kind of taken by surprise because I couldn't access the forum for a few minutes, then suddenly an entirely different layout was before me. It was a shock to the system, as any sudden change can be.

While it will probably take me a little while to adjust, I like it, frankly. The layout is more consistent with many message boards, and will allow me to search some of the forums more quickly. Plus, by putting the name of the most recent reply (as in a message board format), it will save me the time spent going back to articles that I replied to most recently.

It's different, sure, but I think it's put in some good differences, and, to someone already familiar with message boards, it's not THAT different.

All in all, I think it's a good change. Nice work, crew!

Tova, emp, got answer on that one?

I did it but honestly once I did it, forgot how. I do know I had to go to another stardock site to do it.

Sorry.

Well, guess I'll try and fiddle around...I'll check back later to see if anyone knows.

Ok, question...how do I add a picture, like by my name? That has been driving me crazy for a long time.

Go to 'My Account' link at the top and then click on 'Update Images' tab and you should be able to upload your icon from there.

Withholding judgement for now.  It is different.

Thanks, I just figured that out. I had to go to Stardock to do it...looks like JU has the link now too...awesome.

I don't think JU has a link for it

It does, right at the top next to your Nickname

I think it looks nice. Thanks!

It comes and goes, when I first saw it I thought I had a virus or someone was playing a joke, I did not know what to make of it. I shut down and re-opened to the same thing then spotted Gids Thread and cottoned on! Slow aren't I?

Anyways I shutdown again and re-opened in the old version?

It has a lot of improvements but the one thing I don't like is - I have to go thru each channel to see whats there, whereas the last vers I could spot what had been updated in each channel upto the minute. No worry though.

I have been trying to upload a personal icon, it keeps telling me the upload was successful, but he picture has been corrupted? the pic is a jpeg, so not sure what I am doing wrong, any ideas?
on Aug 28, 2006
it recommends the pic be 50x50 is that pixels and what should the resolution be?

My picture is edited in serif, then exported to desktop as a jpeg
any ideas to fix?

Hello, jennifer1, It should be 50x50 pixels at 72 dpi. perhaps if you still continue to have some trouble, send me the image and I'll have a look to make sure it's not a format internally that is not supported. You can send it to GMarsack@Stardock.com.

I really don't like them, just like I really don't like them over on Wincustomize. My biggest gripe is I can no longer see the 5-6 most recently commented on articles. You have to head to each section now. Much more time consuming, much less user friendly. Especially when there are a ridiculous number of sub forums like there are here.

Alright. So I was a little hasty n hot-tempered in my initial response. i spent half an hour or so playing with it and... well, actually I'm starting to like it.

So I take back the bit about fixing what wasn't broke. But every thing I said about rubber-necked tech heads stands.

One thing I don't like with this new layout: The old forum remembered the last reply you read on a thread and started you there when you checked it again. This new one doesn't seem to do that.
