The journey from there to here

I decided to find out what your favorite sitcoms were, in part to promote my own favorite.

My favorite sitcom of all time would have to be the BBC show "The Young Ones":

As a teenager, I watched this show religiously on MTV. It was standard viewing in my circle of friends. It was creative, funny, and always featured a musical guest somewhat outside of the mainstream (interestingly enough, it was where I heard my first Van Morrison song, as a cover by one of the bands. I hunted the song down until I found it and thus began a lifelong appreciation of the OTHER Morrison's musical genius...but I digress).

Incidentally, this comedy is out on video. After its MTV run, it had a "Nick at Nite" resurgence in the 90's. For anyone who hasn't viewed this show, I highly recommend it, although, NOT for those who can't stand British humour (a good litmus test for British humor: Fawlty Towers).

So, let's hear YOUR favorites!

Mash is my all-time favourite sit-com. That counts doesn't it?
It had humour, human frailities, it showed how fear creates monsters out of a human. There was love, hate, all the human
emotions possible, and more. Ya. Mash. All kinds of personalities in it.

I was going to say Fawlty Towers. Remember the anagrams of the title on the sign? Watery Fowls, Flay Otters, Fatty Owls, Flowery Twats, Farty Towels.

Cheers was great.
Newhart, also. Bob couldn't make his subsequent shows as good as that one because he couldn't invent characters as funny as Larry and the Darryls.

Oh yeah. Mash, too.

I like Threes company....It's all about Mr. Roper, Mr. Furley, and Larry Dallas!

The first 4 years of M*A*S*H are good

I also have a strange fixation with The Andy Griffith Show. I think it's a Don Knotts thing. The man is a freakin comedic genius!

OOh....there are so man!
Lets see....growing up in England, The Young Ones was a firm fave, as was Are You Being Served. later, both D and I loved One Foot In The Grave.

US-wise....The Andy Griffith Show, and The Simpsons (not sure if that counts as a sitcom or not, but I love it)...and South Park.

As a child I watched Lucy and Desi. The episode with Harpo Marx? was it? that was a gut buster! and the one where she's pg and Desi gets a letter at the club and is singing, not knowing which lady in the audience is pg, and is delighted when he realizes it's HIS wife!

I think MASH got better every time they replaced a character.

You guys are going to laugh at me.....Who's the Boss? has a lot of staying power with me. I guess it's because Tony Danza and I are Italian kinered spirits!

I have to admit, I liked "Who's the Boss", too, but for OTHER reasons:

HEY! I was a teenager, ok?

Cheers............ hands down

Even though it isn't as good as it once was, I have to say the Simpsons...

If I have to pick a live-action Sitcom.... I'd probably say the short-lived but ever enjoyable WKRP.....
on May 04, 2005
All in the Family and Green Acres. Arnold Ziffel.....hahahahaha
on May 04, 2005
Ummm, Loni Anderson.....WKRP, Nano, Nano....Mork and Mindy( Robin Williams was better on drugs, not like his metro-complex character of late )
and of course Mayberry RFD.

Geographically correct fave - Dukes of Hazzard !!! ( how 'bout them Daisy Dukes......)

Ditto for me.  Second is the Cosby Show (Original).

MASH for sure.

One can appreciate Knotts even more when they know that in the Army he as an Airborne Ranger. In real life he was actually a tough guy. Somehow makes his comedy work even more impressive.
