PC means always having to say you're sorry

Make no mistake about it, I'm not particularly a fan of Geraldine Ferrarro.

While I have nothing against her per se, I was not at an age in 1984 where I paid particularly close attention to her campaign. I basically have no strong feelings either way about her.

But Ferrarro has been caught up in the PC web of being a victim simply because she told the truth. Barack Obama would not be where he is today if he were white.

Of course, what makes it kind of glaring is her omission of the fact that Hillary Clinton would not be where she is today if she were male. Neither Democratic candidate possesses a particularly enticing resume for a Presidential candidate, and while both possess impressive powers of rhetoric, neither does so to the point that they stand out as potential leaders of our country. Obama is one of those candidates that, if he were white, would certainly be "on the fast track" towards the Presidency, but in the world of lily white, he would be four, eight, or even twelve years shy of being a true contender. Hillary, on the other hand, might be tagged for Attorney Generalship or a high cabinet post, but nothing in her resume stands out as "future president" material.

One of the saddest things about the November election is, no matter who takes the Democratic crown, we all lose. McCain's no better than the lesser of two (or possibly three...don't count out [gak!] Nader in a world that still believes if we don't all ride bicycles we're going to need to evolve fins, and quickly!) evils, but Hillary's negativity rating (how many Obama votes were cast because the voters DID NOT want Hillary? It would be interesting to know!) make it possible that the lesser of two evils may be voters' main concern ome November.

Democrats have fallen victim to their own politically correct rhetoric. In their rush to prove they are the party of equality, they have been quick to crown anyone who's not white male to the throne, regardless of their ability to do their job. What, really, is Hill going to do when the 3AM call comes? Roll over and wake Bill? Based on her "experience", that would seem to be the mst likely option.

And it is the American people who will suffer most for it

Sad when the PC monster turns on its keepers, isn't it.

Appears she made similar comments about Jesse Jackson's presidential bid in th 1980's. It is great when PC's arbiters get bitten in the ass by their lap dogs. Hoisted on their own petard, as they say.

Affirmitive action at work for you... the taxpayer.

I agree. What she said is correct, and America is getting a glimpse of what an Obama administration will look like.  Playing the race card every chance they get.

I can't believe so many people support this nonsense.

Can you imagine having a president that demands apologies from everyone who says anything "offensive" about them?

Be careful, thy just might try to pass it as a bill.

I, too, am no fan of Geraldine Ferraro only becausue she puts her party line politics above her faith.  She claims to be Catholic and yet is a hard bitten pro-abort.

Gotta give credit where credit is due....after admitting that she herself wouldn't have gotten named VP is her name was "Gerald" instead of Geraldine, Ferrarro had the audacity to tell the truth and members of the Left, her own party,  are ringing her through the mill for doing so.

It's too delicious...they are bumbling all over themselves at the risk of offending one or another portion of their constituencies, whatever that might be at the moment!

It's pretty comical seeing how thin-skinned they are, given what nearly all the Dems have had to say about Bush over the past 7 years.

It's her opinion, it's not the truth.  Truth would mean that it's a fact and you could prove it.  Can you prove that if he were white no one would vote for him?  Do have records of voters saying "Oh you poor black man, let me vote for you to be president"?

Frankly, I think it's one of the worst observations ever, and a great number of white people are eating it up.  It's what's keep the racial divide alive.  I will be the first to say that I think Obama lacks the experience for the position.  But no one points to how eloquent he is.  No one mentions the number of young voters who have come out to support him.  No.  He's winning on some sort of presidential affirmative action program.  I will give you credit on one point, I think he does get a great deal of Hillary haters.

Gid, I am really surprised by you on this.  A few months ago, I attributed remarks to you that I considered racist and you got angry and dropped a few four letter bombs on me.  Yet, you have pretty much accused those who support or cover Obama to be racists since they only do so because he is black.  Shame.

Do have records of voters saying "Oh you poor black man, let me vote for you to be president"?

I may be wrong and not withstanding that Obama also has others who vote for him, but haven't all the TV stations reported after every primary vote that X % of black voters voting for him becasue he's black!  They keep talking about the fact that he gets the black vote...why is that do you suppose? Would he get the high black vote if he were White or Asian or Spanish? I don't think so.

On the other hand, same deal with Clinton....X number of women voters voted for her becasue she's a woman.

Yes, no doubt,  he's elequent....master rhetorictician yes, good at swaying emotions, yes again, but it's all sophistry....no substance at all.

He hopes "for change," but what exactly is it for which he hopes?

It certainly isn't giving hope to babies in the womb. They don't count in his wordmanship. Obama opposed legislation that would have told doctors to treat babies that survive abortion and are born alive. How about hope for Terri Schiavo or for her family?  Recently he said that the "worst mistake" of his career was voting for a motion that gave Terri Schiavo a last chance at life.

Actually, that really only happened in Mississippi.  Most of the black vote early on went to Clinton because she's a Clinton.  So that's absolutely wrong.

Other than that, would you say that he's only popular because he's black?  Campaign issues aside.  We're talking about race.

Not sure about that first part.

I'd say he's popular because he's a blank canvas and we Americans love to project - all the other candidates have a fully filled in picture, one that's 'warts & all' and had its share of tomatoes thrown at it. He doesn't (yet) carry the baggage the others do. At times, I think that's been part of his strategy from the beginning - go into an election run with as few enemies & as little track record as possible.

As I recall Clinton's team made Obama "the black candidate" after his win in Iowa. The country as a whole was pretty much transending race up until then...the race/gender vote has been calculated ever since.

That's why I agree with Gid that Ferrarro told the truth...but when it comes to race, people don't want to hear it. Every voter has their reasons for voting as they do...for some Obama gets their vote because he's black.

Has one single white male candidate with as little experience as Obama or Hillary even landed in the TOP THREE of the Democratic Race? You may be tempted to say Clinton, but remember, Clinton had been governor of Arkansas for over a decade, and had been the party's golden boy for almost two. Hillary is a carpetbagger who rode her husband's coattails to the only elected office she ever won, and the first election was all but conceded to the Dems after Giuliani dropped out.

As for Obama, while he's a great speaker, so is Russ Feingold, who would barely register if he were to run. And Feingold has FAR more experience.

Yes, Ferrarro's statement is one of opinion, but it's pretty much borne out by the facts.

I think that Barack Obama truly represents a politician who has risen above race and the like. His message resonates well with young people cutting across racial and class lines and he has, even if he not the Democratic candidate, changed for the bettewr the USA.
