The journey from there to here
Link This is the kind of thing that really annoys me. For years, I have heard the assertion that we are a nation that hates children, but it is only within the last year or so that I am becoming more certain that is true.

William and Rachel Poczatek's young girls played regularly in the backyard pool, laughing and squealing as children do. Their neighbours had them charged with violating a noise ordinance as a result.

Although a judge dismissed the complaint, this, in my opinion, shows how far off the deep end we have gone. No longer are children cherished and valued, now they are a nuisance and a liability, and in this case, even a criminal inconvenience.

We live in a nation in which it is becoming more and more unusual for our kids to be born. In 30 some odd years, we went from back alley abortions, to drive through, zero consequence abortions. If a family has more than two kids, they are suspect; if they have more than four they are widely despised. Even in churches that claim to HATE abortion, and that carry leaflets on the back tables from Focus on the Family.

I can't imagine life without the laughter and squeal of children. And I truly PITY anyone who believes it is a "noise" to be shushed.

CHARLESCS1 POSTS:
This is the world we have created for our children and then we wonder why our children are more likely to become criminals, drug users, lazy, ignorant and worst of all dead before their time. It is depressing to spend most of the day hoping your child will make it thru the day unharmed before you get home to see them.

Charles, welcome to the culture of secular and atheist humanism and the demise of the Judeo-Christian one.

Instead of "turning the other cheek", the intolerant sue others.

Hey Brad, if you just happen to read this I have a suggestion for a feature for this web site. How's about putting a Signature feature for the replies kinda like the one you find in Outlook where everytime you make new email your name, phone number and other info automatically is placed at the end of the email. This would be a great feature so that every time I post I can have a disclaimer at the end of each reply.

Really people is it necessary for us here to have to specify exactly what is meant ever time we reply?

And they have parents for Christs's sake!

Really? You buy a house in a neighborhood, a neighbor moves in who refuses to actually discipline their kids within societal norms and it is somehow *your* responsibility to move away? Do you actually think that is even remotely sensible? If so just let me know so I can stop bothering to reply.

Seriously, was that necessary greywar? Did you not really get the point of my reply? There are areas where children are not allowed. People who live in communities where families with children live or will move in should take into consideration that they were once children themselves and that even though there was a chance they were not noisy, I'm sure they knew kids that were. Man, it's not like noisy children is a new fad or something. "And they have parents for Christs's sake", this is just silly. I am a parent and I don't like it when I can hear my kids over my own music. But they are kids and they will make noise, unless I lock them up, tape their mouths and hit them with a belt every time they made the slightest noise.

I know of people who have moved cause the situation in the neighborhood is not what they wanted. I was one of them. If you don't like it move, you have no power over moving others. DrGuy said it right:

If our children cannot play and have fun - in their own backyard, during daylight, then we are a sad society that has become too self centered to even dream of procreating

I was a child, I know of all those old farts who would complain even when we were just walking by their houses and laughed loud. I remember some who would actually call the police because we were playing baseball, riding bikes or even just plain old hide and seek. If our children were like Rodney from the cartoon Robots where we could just lower the volume, it would be great at times, but it would also be dull cause I take great pleasure in hearing my kids have fun. It reminds me how good we have it here, unlike places like Iraq where children are mentally suffering from the constant bombings, death of loved ones, lack of education, fear of being killed, etc.

When it comes to this story, there was no indication that there was more than just kids having fun. I don't see why some here are jumping to these ideas that there had to be more behind this. Why can't it just be plain and simple people complained for nothing? They didn't like the noise, they complained to the parents, nothing much could really be done, so they felt a higher athourity could get more. What could the judge have done? Fine the parents every time the kids make a noise? Obligate the family to move in the hopes that furute owners have no children? What about the other children in the neighborhood? Will they also have to pay the price had the judge ruled against the 2 girls parents?

What could the judge have done?

The point is, according to the story, the judge dismissed the complaint.

To me, it's not so much what the judge could/should have done. It's the whole, frivolous, lawsuit thing that's going on today--- at the drop of a hat so to speak (or the noise of 2 little children). The idea of running to the government everytime someone's kids are noisy in and of itself makes no sense.

Why can't people have a civil discussion, neighbor to neighbor, and settle their differences anymore?

All children should be muzzled, highly drugged and put in a "clockwork orange"-type device until aged 18.

All children should run free and be disciplined.

You've been around Utah Mormons too long.

(whoops, sorry...did I just SAY that? LOL)

(Note: to those who don't know, Utah Mormons are a distinct subculture of Mormonism that you probably have not experienced if you haven't lived in Utah. Even many other Mormons generally charactize many among their number as being flippin' insane...lol!)

We call them "Happy Valley Mormons" these days . . .

And I was being facetious.

Oh come on, I know you meant it. There was no winky emoticon on the end of the post. Therefore, you were being serious.

Ha! I win!

Ah! You found me out! It's official, sarcasm cannot exist without emoticon . . .

Heaven help us all.
on Jun 25, 2007
Emoticons are evil. Do you see the way they're looking at us? Like they know us. They don't know us. They just think they know us. Just because they're emotional creatures doesn't mean they know what we're feeling.   See? That one has NO clue what I'm feeling. Stupid emoticon. You WILL feel my wrath.    Ack, that one has me pegged! Run away!

My personal favorite is . . . that one looks smarmy. Looks like he's thinking of something . . . less than above-the-table.

I think he's thinking of a cookie.

Hah, not without a lawyer present. These days it's either a lawyer or a gun that decides who wins the argument.

I like this one   It's useful in both saying congrats and insulting, example:

You did a great job at shutting him up.   <--- Good

You did a great job at making a fool of yourself.    <--- Bad
